Online PDF Bookmark Editor

Add and edit PDF bookmarks visually, drag to nest, auto-generate - all processed locally

Many PDF ebooks and scanned documents come without bookmarks, so there is no way to jump between chapters. This free online PDF bookmark editor lets you add bookmarks to any PDF: the whole outline is shown as a visual tree where you can add, rename, and delete entries, drag to reorder or nest them, and click any bookmark to preview its target page.

Unlike most online tools, everything happens locally in your browser - your file is never uploaded to a server, so even confidential documents are safe to edit. The saved PDF includes the proper PageMode setting, so any reader opens it with the bookmark panel already visible.

Besides manual editing there are two shortcuts: auto-generate (detects headings from font size and chapter numbering; scanned PDFs are handled with built-in OCR) and TOC import (paste the book’s table of contents as text and the whole bookmark tree is created for you, page offset included).

How to use

  1. Open your PDF (parsed locally, never uploaded)
  2. Add, edit, delete, and drag bookmarks in the left panel to build the outline
  3. Or click "Auto-generate" to detect headings, or import bookmarks from a TOC text
  4. Click "Save PDF" to download the file with a working bookmark outline

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. This is a pure client-side app: parsing, editing, and saving all happen inside your browser. Nothing is stored after you close the page.

Can it add bookmarks to a scanned PDF?

Yes. For scanned PDFs without a text layer, the auto-generate feature runs a local AI OCR model on the table-of-contents pages, parses "title + page number" lines, and calculates the page offset automatically.

Will the bookmarks show up in other PDF readers?

Yes. Bookmarks are written as a standard PDF Outlines structure, so Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Edge, Foxit, and every mainstream reader will display them - and open the file with the outline panel expanded.

Does it support nested (multi-level) bookmarks?

Yes, unlimited levels. Drag a bookmark onto another one to make it a child entry.
