About to print a thesis, report, or proposal and the PDF has no page numbers? This free tool stamps page numbers on every page: six positions (header/footer × left/center/right) and formats including plain numbers, "1 / total", "Page 1", Roman numerals (i, ii), and zero-padded (01, 02).

The details are covered: set a custom start number (e.g. continue from a previous volume), skip the first pages (keep the cover and TOC unnumbered), and adjust the font size. A live preview shows exactly where the numbers will appear.

Numbers are written into the PDF content stream as real text, so they show up in print and in every reader. Everything is processed locally in your browser - the file is never uploaded.

Can I keep the cover page unnumbered?

Yes. Set "Skip first pages" to 1 and numbering starts from the second page; use a bigger value for documents with long front matter.

Which formats are supported?

Plain (1, 2, 3), with total (1 / 12), "Page 1", Chinese style, lowercase Roman (i, ii, iii), and zero-padded (01, 02). Start number is adjustable for all of them.

Will the numbers overlap my content?

Numbers sit in the margin area (about 1cm from the edge), clear of normal layouts. For documents with tiny margins, check the preview first.

What if the PDF already has page numbers?

Existing numbers are not detected or removed - new ones are stamped on top. Best used on documents without numbering.
